The Minister
Rev. Tessica Hackshaw is a dedicated and compassionate church minister with over 26 years of service in the Christian Minister. He currently serves as the Minister of Word, Sacrament and Pastoral Charge in the Emmanuel United Church, Upper Ottawa Street, Hamilton, Canada. Here he is cultivating a vibrant and growing congregation committed to faith, outreach, and service.
Rev. Hackshaw was born and raised in the small town of South Rivers, in the Caribbean Island of St Vincent and the Grenadines. There he developed a deep sense of purpose in helping others. His journey into ministry began after completing his Bachelor of Arts in Theology from The University of the West Indies, and a Diploma in Ministerial Studies at the United Theological College in Mona, Jamaica. After his studies in Jamica he served Methodist churches in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Grenada, Belize and West Grey, Ontario Canada, before coming to Emmanuel in Hamilton. During his service in Grenada, he pursued Studies at the St. Georges University in an MBA program.
After arriving in Canada, he completed a Master of Theological Studies at Emmanuel College in the University of Toronto and is now serving as a Member of the Southwestern Ontario Candidacy Board. His passion for Education, teaching, pastoral care, and community building continues, a passion which was evident even in his early years of ministry.
Throughout his career, Rev. Hackshaw has worked with various ministries, focusing on youth outreach, mission and evangelism spiritual counseling, and social justice. His sermons, known for their heartfelt delivery and practical applications, often inspire his congregation to live out their faith in tangible ways. He is particularly passionate about fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals—regardless of background —feel welcomed and valued.
Rev. Hackshaw is also a strong advocate for local community engagement. He spearheads initiatives that address homelessness, food insecurity, and mental health challenges, striving to embody Christ's love and compassion through action. Under his leadership, Emmanuel United Church Fellowship has expanded its outreach programs, touching the lives of countless individuals both inside and outside the church walls.
In addition to his pastoral work, Rev. Hackshaw is a sought-after minister, he shares his insights on leadership, biblical teaching, and the role of the church in modern society. He is known for his humility, deep faith, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of those around him.
Rev. Hackshaw is married to his wife, Melanie, and their union has produced two children: Azrael and Anaiah. In his personal time, he enjoys hiking, reading theology books, and spending quality time with his family. His favorite verse is Philippians 3:12, New International Version "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me,’ a testament to his belief in the transformative power of faith.
